My name is Astrid Williamson, and from an early age, I knew I wanted to help others. I started working with children at the age of 15, and by the time I was an adult, I had seen first-hand the impact of many emotional and behavioural problems. The logical next step for me was to study Psychology at Utrecht University. I place great importance in my practice on scientifically based diagnosis and treatment methods. At the same time, I am always open to working on the spiritual development of my clients.
After completing a degree in Clinical and Health Psychology at Utrecht University, I studied EFT. In my practice, I also utilize CBT, EMDR, and PeP therapeutic modalities.
• EFT - Emotion Focused Therapy, focuses on individual problems and emotionally focused therapy focuses on relationship problems.
• CBT - Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on mood disorders, anxiety disorders and stress-related disorders.
• EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is especially effective in dealing with trauma or loss.
• PeP - Person Centred experiential Psychotherapy PeP is primarily person-oriented and not exclusively symptom- or complaint-oriented. It helps the client to process and change emotions, thoughts and automatic learned behaviours.
Helping people on an emotional and cognitive level and assisting in behavioural change is very important to me. Which treatment methods will be utilized to achieve each clients goal will be decided together. It's about feeling comfortable with your therapy. Exposing yourself can be quite challenging and emotional, which is why we agree on how we work, together. In addition to the appropriate treatment method, it is very important that there is a good “click” or rapport with the practitioner. We need to build trust for you to feel both safe, and secure, during therapy. If for whatever reason, we do not manage to build a good rapport, I will help you to find the best fit for you with other practitioners in my network.
I believe in the inner strength of every person. It may happen that people do not see, or no longer see, their strength, or that they do not know how to best use that strength. During the sessions I can offer tools for you to learn to tap into your inner strength. This can in turn, help you to to deal with all of life’s challenges.
The way in which I deal with a client’s problem, is strongly person-oriented. Consultation and feedback on how we are working together are very important in this regard; the person and his or her development are very important to me.
